Why The Prejudice?

Our parents love us. They only think the best for us and it’s very natural for them to be protective of us for we are their prized assets. Their lives revolve around us and I’ll forgive them if, during our childhood, they leave us bereft of certain experiences only because they think it’s dangerous. But sometimes what starts as protectionism from parents, if let out of control, ends up culminating into a barrier for us to experience our true being. They try and change things in us without knowing fully the implications it may have on us later.

One such phenomenon in our society is parents trying to change the dominant hands of their children. India is a land of a trillion mesmerizing things and one of them are superstitions. And it is quite natural that some of those fallacies are built around the taboo that is associated to the use of left hand. Let’s take it from the top when the child is born with a dominant left hand. A child is born with no such knowledge and if the behaviour is never interrupted, he may never notice that he is out of ordinary or ominous in any way. Imagine how normal his life would be. However, if he hands over his money with his left hands in our society, he is asked to change the hands first and then give it again, for it is wrong to hand over money with left hands. Now try and concentrate on the dilemma and embarrassment a child would face when he is asked to shy away from the most mundane inclination of using his left hand and he isn’t wrong at all. Superstitions such as below have forever kept as befooled –

  1. Performing any ritual with left hand is ominous and God won’t accept your gift. Really? Don’t our religious books say that you are perfect in God’s image of a perfect child? He only asks you to be in gratitude for the gifts he has rendered to you and a left hand is one of them!
  2. We’re also deterred from using our left hands to eat or cook and these limitations are most commonly dished out upon females who use kitchens more than men do. It is claimed by various studies that females are lesser prone to be born left handed and so, if ever a female around us is a southpaw; simply observe the uniqueness without judgement and prejudice.

Now recall the Indian hygiene habits in our Indian toilets. Do you think that’s where everything went wrong for Indians who were born left handed and then were forced to change their dominant hand? Wouldn’t correct hygiene habits get us rid of all the dogma? Had some of the famous southpaws been scorned for using their left hand, we wouldn’t have witnessed those Amitabh fight scenes that we whistled on, or Yuvraj’s 6 sixes in an over, or that first over hat-trick by Irfan Pathan against Pakistan. To sum it up, DON’T EVER meddle with the intuition that your child is born with.

Seeing is Believing

Hate is a strong word isn’t it? Especially when it comes to things you do or get done in a day. I hate none of what I do. I love my job. I like the people around me who work just like me. We have a fun time. I love my home or whatever of a ‘Home’ we’ve made it into. I love my dog. I love my wife and doing stuff for her.

The only thing that ails my soul and which I think is entirely a waste of my time (some may argue it isn’t) is driving to and fro my office. I feel that hour and a half is the least productive time in my day and the best period I can use for my writing if someone drives my vehicle. It isn’t fruitful to my health for all the smoke and dust that enters me, sticks to me, and makes me look like a villager on either end of the journeys. It doesn’t exercise a single muscle of my body and if anything raises my blood pressure.

And therefore, I want my robot to be a car that drives itself. I know they are still building on this technology and I may never be able to afford one for myself for it may never turn cheap and I know I’ll end up driving my car for my whole life whenever I own one, I want to nurture this dream. I know a lot of you may argue against me sleeping late and waking up late but because we’re talking solely about my comfort, this will be the pinnacle of the technology I wish to own.

The entire commute must get reduced to small phrases – “Driver, drive to my office” or “Driver, drive to my home”. Something voice activated and startable only using a password and it then does all the work itself while I commute hasslefree inside a clean cabin, undisturbed to write all I want. This way I’ll get a thousand other ideas to write about too by simply looking out of the window.

Some may argue, why not take a bus instead which will be cheaper? I say, I hate being around people. Crowd and bad smells simply tick me off. This when clearly, people are my best source of inspiration for thoughts and writing. Every living body feeds my brains with things and teaches me stuff that no books or internet can.

Seeing is Believing“.

How Not To Suffer

Well me being down won’t actually be the way women get down, for you know, I’m a man and us men don’t have to go through the mood cycles of the women for those 5 dreaded days of the month. But us men, we are brought down by a lot of other things like serious atrocities to the way we function, learn, and go about our life in general. An unhindered path is what we all seek, ain’t it?

Yet it doesn’t really beckon, does it? So I sing! Yes this hoarse of a throat squeals out the most dreaded sounds ever heard by mankind. I’ve also practiced the most essential art of all – to not give a single fuck to anyone not minding his own business and interfering with mine. It took me long years to get to where I am with my screwed up brain, but I guess it bodes well for me that I always have the company of my mind. It keeps me occupied. I look forward to every screwed up idea it comes up with but what I like the most about it is – how funny it is! It has the most amazing gift to see the funny side of life. Not that I laugh a lot though. The facial muscles on my face, you see, have gained a lot of weight and are very lazy to supply any expression. So all I do is HA HA HA and yet I look like I’m watching a train coming to hit me.

So sing. Yes go to that bathroom, take a long hot shower, and clear your throat. Don’t mind the neighbors for they are fools. They don’t know you and they never will. All you got to care about is, your peace of my mind. Just close your eyes while taking that shower and all the while that you sing – plan your next move to avenge your defeat. Nothing will seem clearer. Some will call it day dreaming but trust me – it isn’t. So DON’T EVER FORGET TO SING!

Also try to take a shit. You know invariably when I’m confused, I head to my place of zen – the toilet. It’s as if I watch 2 and 2 make 4 for the first time. You get brilliant ideas when you’re there. TRUST MY EXPERIENCE FELLAS!

Basically when all the filth in and on your body is gone, you’ll find that all the tension that your bore for those last 10 minutes, was worthless. Leave all your tension and problems at the site of the event. Carrying that burden only makes you heavier, lonelier, and inattentive. Concentrate on the next task!

Man I made it sound so much easier, didn’t I?

And all this comes from a man who has cried his whole life carrying the worst shit ever and never being able to take it out from inside of his brain! Yeah, I’ve suffered and only a true sufferer can answer you the best on “How Not to Suffer“!

Life of Positivity

Fate… Destiny? Really? What are these? You may say – the end or the conclusion, wanted or unwanted.

A wanted conclusion is a result of wishful thinking. You’ve got to let it all out. Let people know what you want to do and your vibes and their energy trigger brain waves that start getting together to give you what you want. The stronger is the power of that wish, the more are the chances of it coming true. Nothing is fate.

We create our own destiny with our deeds. The better you are with people, the better your end will be. All life form ends and so must you. The difference is in the way it ends. The more humility that the life carries, the more respectful is the death. Nothing remains after you’re gone but your thoughts which portray your legacy.

The stronger is the motto of your life, more are the chances of you leading your life living it. And in this process, we impact others. The more positive are your thoughts, even more positive are the people around you. You are the energy you emit.

In short, just be good. Nothing works better for you than yourself. You lay your own foundations and end up building your own house on it. Stronger the foundation, stronger the house. Let this house be the home for your dreams. Let this house affect your thoughts in all it’s positivity. Live your dream, for it’s only you that turn them true!

Daily Prompt – Generation XYZ

We-Are-the-Facebook-Generation

To understand a generation, we need to understand what generation means in the first place. A generation by a dictionary means –

The average period, generally considered to be about thirty years, during which children are born and grow up, become adults, and begin to have children of their own“.

Welcome to our generation. Our generation that grew up hearing songs on CD players hung by our belts, grew up to carrying mp3 players and then iPods. Our generation that saw an internet boom, fought Y2k. Our generation that’s seen wars breaking states and countries into two. We probably witnessed the rise and spread of a technology revolution so big that it now has changed the lives for every living being on this planet. Things are now small enough to be held on the pore of our fingers which once couldn’t be held in hand bag.

We are the generation that believes that our future beckons to technology while we continue to value things that our parents taught us. We are the hybrids – the best of everything if we have our head in place and yet the worst of everything if we’ve lost it.

The generation that succeeds us, lets just say, gives up way too easily. They are weak hearted and weaker minded. They are affected more by movies and Facebook than their parents. Since I don’t have kids and I deride the next generation, ones that were born even a decade later, I’m going to talk about the generation that preceded us. We have tons to learn from them and yet tons to throw away what we learnt from them.

Our parents were strong for they believed more in human communication and touch. We learn senses. They weathered freedom struggles, wars of the worst kinds and yet survived to tell their tales. We learn toughness. They invented so much, we can’t help but wonder if we would still be the whiz-kids had they not laid the foundations. They invented bits and bytes. They invented memories. They gave the non-living, the brain to decide – yes or no. We can never waylay their contribution to the humanity.

My parents never failed to bring me in touch with that facet of their times. They taught me to see and think different. It’s a different side if I actually did it. But they tried their best. They cheered me up when I raised my first cricket bat. They were open-minded, for I was travelling alone in public buses responsibly taking care of my brother and his friend, when I was 8 years old. They taught me responsibility. Through the ups and downs of their lives, they taught me humility.

Crazy as I may sound now but our preceding generation tried teaching us society when they should have taught humanity. They taught us jealousy when it was competition we needed. They tried teaching us pride but all they really emanated was ego. We learnt to see the blackness in people first than embrace the truth of their deeds.

In this internet age, when the world is literally at our fingertips, we should try instilling hope, pride and humanity in our children than burn them early in their childhoods all the while suppressing their basic need for necessary freedom.

And I learnt this from my parents. Freedom if imparted carefully turns into responsibility much better than any other virtue.

Mother Nature

autumn-leaves-wallpaperautumn-free-wallpaper---autumn-leaves-93069-dh11nozj

Lets start with an analogy today.

Think of yourselves as a leaf. Your tree as our mother nature and soil as her keeper, the universe.

It didn’t go too bad, did it? I felt it today. Light, alone, a once-in-a-while-happy feeling. I felt free today.

Try and relate your life with a leafs life.

A leaf springs to life from a hole. A little bud that with regular feeding and nurturing starts to grow and show its true colors. Mother nature holds on to that bud tightly for as long as it can pull its own weight. And then the stems start to grow longer to let the leaf face the sun, know its purpose i.e. to give oxygen and preserve nature in return. The leaf remains for as long as it can braving the storms, the harsh sun, the snow and the rain, all to preserve the tree itself. And then autumn arrives when it must depart. It must give itself away to make way for another fresher stronger replacement. The tree whilst preparing the next batch stands naked withstanding the nature spending all that it can and grow old. After several of these autumn cycles when the tree finally gets frail, it starts to wither away. It’s those leaves that had fallen, that then act as the breeding ground for another tree. And the cycle continues.

How similar is that to us? Very. We are born from an orifice too as little buds all rolled up with hands and legs right up to our eyes to protect ourselves from the very nature that will later power us. The parents then provide us, keeping us on a short leash till we have grown and learnt t0 weather the storms of a cycle called life. They teach us to respect the nature and tell us our purpose – to survive. We learn to respect elders and make sure to stand up for them. We learn love. We then learn the most important lesson of our lives – to watch over our parents when we are stronger than they are. While us humans, would not have as many autumn cycles, we do wither away, don’t we but we have our children to breed the next tree just the way trees have leaves.

In both the cases, neither the tree nor the leaves ever wanted to desert each other but that’s a process. That’s nature. That’s how it works. We are so bound in this cycle that anything other than that seems out-of-place. Any other means of birthing, any other way of dying is unnatural.

I’ve grown into respecting the fact that nothing around us can be changed. Only we can change. And when people die unnaturally, it’s always been the most difficult for me to accept. Eventually I do but it requires reconciliation with our wasteful ways. Suicides, bombs, accidents, anything other than dying from old age is natural.

Respect mother nature for we are incapable of ever arresting its fury.

Dreams Come True

I dreamt that Martin Guptill of New Zealand was scoring a century on Saturday against India and I woke up to find my dream had come true.

Another one of my most recurrent dream is – myself falling into an abyss, a dark hole right on top of an iron. And yet I’ve never done so.

Why this sudden shift towards dreams realization?

You know just the other day, a colleague of mine was telling me how his dreams had suddenly started coming true. Is this the season? Is this the year when our dreams and wishes come true?

I’d like to believe so, but the thing is what have we made our dreams to be? I have a theory. Dreams are your subconscious reminding you to stay true to your wishes, wishes long forgotten and lost but so loved deep down in your heart that your body, your veins and the blood in it, just re-emphasizes the power of your wishes and dreams from time to time.

But this certainly doesn’t explain the one dream that I told you about where I fall?

Will anyone care to explain?

Krakow!

What’s up with Kraków? Why am I hearing this word time and again since 4 days now? Is there any connection?

Kraków, Poland. Office, home, WordPress Reader and now my blog too! Normally when I post something on my blog I get rid off it and I can then move on. Lets see how this goes.

Zee2Etch Challenge – Task #9

Task #9 for the Zero To Hero challenge had me follow 5 other blogs.

So, thought about it and the only topic other than what I blog about sprang to my mind – SCIENCE.

So I took to the WordPress Reader and selected “Science” for my topic of search. Following are the blogs that attracted my attention –

1. http://zedie.wordpress.com/2014/01/18/scientists-accidentally-record-ball-lightning-in-nature-for-first-time/

I always wondered what those mushroom-ish ball of clouds were in movies – This is the answer!

2. http://sensuouscurmudgeon.wordpress.com/2014/01/18/do-religious-brains-function-differently/

I hate religion so I read everything about it!

3. http://priorprobability.com/2014/01/18/what-common-law-rule-or-general-legal-principle-would-you-retire/

I’ve often asked myself this question without actually realizing it!

4. http://criticalhypocrisy.wordpress.com/2014/01/18/some-thoughts-on-gender/

This one deals with an idea that has always baffled me!

5. http://jhone2english.wordpress.com/2014/01/18/self-storage-facility-infographic-9/

This one deals with my area of speciality!

And so these were eventually the blogs I followed today hence accomplishing my goal.

Aims – From Love To Obsession

Warning – This may turn into a rant pretty fast!

Can your aims themselves turn into stumbling blocks for your happiness? The day I took the decision to write “A Blog A Day”, was the last day I was free and not tired. Damn this schedule is ruining my head and amidst the work that I get done in the day, I have to watch out for any topic that might evoke my interest to think about it. But all that pops up in my damn mind are – ridiculous code review comments, are they even valid and how do I avoid them in the code I’ll write next. Topics!!!!???? Please will you just smoke yourselves out of some window and land on my table? How difficult can it be but trust me, it truly is plus the difficulty in getting me inspired by any idea? It just shows how less I learn in my current office.

Oh yes… I started with something then haywired out of it… Aims and them turning into stumbling blocks!

Has any such decision, to do something constructive chronically and eventually making it a habit, itself become a burden for any of you? I heard a story somewhere and this is how it goes –

“There was once a very famous philosopher who loved reading, loved books and cherished collecting them. He started nurturing a dream of building his own library, full of his favorite books, at a tender age of 7. He read and read and collected and collected when at age 27, he had finally built a library inside his room. He kept on building it for next 10 years when one day he had a huge hall in the center of the town full of his favorite books – his own public library.

But one day, a fire in the library burned all his collection to ashes. He stood outside the burning hall, very silent, pondering, when someone asked – “How do you feel when you’ve lost such a treasure?”.

He replied – “Relieved!”.

I guess the moral of the story is quite clear and so is the intent of narrating it. Now some may argue why should it become a burden if it’s something you love to do so much?

Well lets delve deeper and divide the discussion into three items –

A. Things that you love to do but can do away with when you get bored

B. Things that you would love to do because that’s what makes you happy

C. Obsessions, case in point OCDs

Now, we can safely leave C aside for they are mandatory.

But A and B have a grey area wherein someone might start with B but end up at A or vice versa. The story I just narrated was a 30 years long journey from B to A.

The situations in our life change so fast that the love for some of our things may perish but a habit always persists. No matter how much you control, habits tend to present themselves at the oddest of times. I’m not talking OCDs here but simple things you do mindlessly. For I have one – I always walk like a rook on a chess board – 2 and a half – 2 to the front and then the next step right beside it. I don’t love doing it, it just happens. That’s how my mind signals my legs to walk on tiles. These things don’t make us good or bad  because they are inherent. We have them ‘coz we can’t change them.

What makes us good or bad are our aims and our will to pursue them till we achieve the desired results.

Did I meet my goal for today? I hope so.

Any more theories?

River of Energy

Energy is like a river. You can’t stop it. It will find its way no matter what you do to stop it. It is indestructible for it will only transform.

So stop wasting it on negative people. They are nothing. They will eat you from the inside and you’ll have nothing to spend on productive thoughts and actions. If you do not spend your energy on negative people and only even preserve it and not indulge in wrong deeds, it’ll find its way out towards construction, positivity and productivity. This river of energy should only be guided towards productive and generous channels.

People who won’t be constructive in my life will get the least of my energy and time. If you can’t be constructive towards me, do just 1 thing – spread some joy and laughter, simply lighten up the mood. And if you can’t even do that, just leave me alone!

MBTI Personality Types

I’ve always been confused about how do I explain to people around me why I am what I am and why have I turned into someone who they never taught me to be. There was always a signature failure in explaining that people like me exist and it’s normal for someone to behave the way i sometimes do. It was always that I have lain to people around me all my life when all that I have said is the truth – the truth about their inner beings. It’s them that have run away from objective truth. I have only been acting like a mirror – silent as I can be yet forceful enough to get my point across. The wrinkles on my face, the black puff under my eyes, a double-chin, a bloating belly, a receding hairline – that’s all you – you gave it to me!

People who never understood me can maybe now take some pointers about how to behave with me. I have been very analytical about it and thought about it a lot. I took some online tests after I came across this article – My Name is Bond – Life of a BDSM Practitioner about why do I actually behave the way I do and the way I have behaved lately. I know that this is not an adult website and I should refrain from providing such links but all I wanted to show you was, how from the unlikeliest of sources, you get links and knowledge that may offer a lifetime of clarity. I am yet to come to terms with the validity of the test because I never gave the authentic MBTI test offered at CAPT. All I have appeared for are tests that claim to be close to what MBTI has to offer and not the real thing. Following are the tests I took-

1. 16personalities

2. personalitypathways

3. humanmetrics

The real test costs a lot and I frankly don’t have that kind of money to spare. The results with all the above were the same. Now only to verify if I really think the same way of myself as my wife perceives and knows me, I asked her to give the test as she knows me. The result was the same. I also made her give the tests for herself and then I gave the test for her. The result was the same for her too. So coming to think of it, at least on a very broad basis, basis on which the above tests have been compiled, I am an INTJ type – the same as the article. It was surprising at first. All of the above sites have their interpretations of this type and all of them are very close to what I actually am. I never knew there were things that could define why I am what I am at times but at least there are words that can validate me to people. The closest that a site has come to explaining me is INTJ Personality.

Just for an easy info, we are the second rarest personality type on this planet – only 1.5% of the people who appeared for the authentic MBTI tests have turned out to be INTJ.

Please do let me know if I should consider some other aspects of these tests (things that I may have missed) before applying them on myself and my life.

Who, What, Why: What is wind chill factor?

BBC News – Who, What, Why: What is wind chill factor?.

The question that I always had just stands answered. I was always flummoxed by how is it that we feel a lot colder when the temperature  would show something in the acceptable region. If you have had this question, this article ought to answer your queries.
